A timeless British legend meets the best of British craftsmanship as Beowulf becomes the latest mythical figure to feature in our bullion coin collection inspired by myths and legends. This latest series commemorates the great fights in the epic Old English poem Beowulf. The first of these coins illustrates the catalyst of Beowulf’s heroic tale, his battle with the swamp monster Grendel.

The reverse of the coin features an illustration by David Lawrence that features the inciting incident of the epic poem, the battle of Beowulf and Grendel, and captures the heroic Beowulf ready to protect King Hrothgar’s subjects from the fearsome and murky Grendel. Struck in 999.9 fine gold, each of these coins is finished to The Royal Mint’s bullion standard; it is also available as a one ounce silver edition.
